Dubbele Dutch

Dubbele Dutch has created its very own Etsy Shop!!!! :)

What is Dubbele Dutch you ask? Dubbele Dutch is an arts & crafts company created by my sister (Amanda Pickford), and myself. We are Dutch sisters on either end of Canada who need to find a way to connect with each other creatively. So this is what we came up with! Together we have made an arts & crafts shop on Etsy, and plan to work together to make the most brilliant crafts you have ever seen! Visit us today!!

Pop Ups!

As you may have already noticed from previous blog posts, I am a little addicted to pop ups! This week in the Arts Integration course we learned some new awesome Pop Up skills. I was able to teach these techniques to the grade 7 & 8′s at my current placement. So much fun, and so magical.

Rod Puppets

This week we created rod puppets using Crayola’s Model Magic. This was one of my favorite projects yet! I’m excited to create puppets during my teaching placement. This is a fabulous way of integrating literacy into any subject.

Triarama

Exploring the arts is always fun in the Arts Integration course at York University. This week we made triarama’s, which is like a diorama, but with only 3 sides. I wanted to use this activity for my geography lesson, but wasn’t able to due to time constraints! I hope to use this art activity in the future.

Book Binding

We have started our new semester, and we are now in a course with Heather Miller called Arts Integration. This week we have learned how to make our own bound books, which we will be specifically using as a visual journal. I’m looking forward to creating these books with my grade 8 class this week! These books will be used for Visual Arts & Poetry.

The Arts Part: Arts & Literacy

I just received my certificate for taking the course; The Arts Part: Arts & Literacy. I learned from the wonderful instruction of: Kathy Lundy, Junia Mason, Heather Miller, and Karen Steffenson.

This course was 5 full Saturdays starting in the new year, and I was completely inspired! We were taught different approaches to integrating the arts into literacy, or literacy into the arts. Every week was spent focusing on a particular art (ie. Visual, Dance, Drama & Music). The final week we put all of the art forms together! I had so much fun, and I am excited to use this information in my current practicum placement. Below is an image of the mask I made in the Visual Arts week, which we also used for Drama and Dance!

Pop-Out Card FUN!

Having this past long weekend mostly to myself, I decided I wanted to make my husband a pop-out card for Valentines Day! But…. I got a little carried away, and went nuts with pop-out  cards, which then turned into books! Oh my! I thought it would be fun to share some of my creations. I hope to make my own paper out of old newsprint and magazines, and then make my very own recycled cards. Keep in mind this is the first time trying to make these, so hopefully I get better over time.
