Tall Man Troubles: What You Need to Know About Neckties

For men of an average height, going to the store and buying a tie is really no big deal. Unfortunately, this seemingly simple task is not always so easy for men who shop in the big and tall section of the store. This is because most neckties do not offer the length necessary to properly fit larger men. However, there is some light at the end of this tunnel. With the help of the tips below, even the tallest of men can get dressed up without worrying about their tie being too short.

Tip #1: Consider Shopping at a Store Geared Towards Tall Men

The easiest, and arguably most effective way to address your need for a longer necktie is to shop the selection of ties designed specifically for tall men. These ties can often be found at specialty shops that cater to men who shop the big and tall selection. If you do not live in an area that offers ties for tall men, you can also find many of these products online and have them shipped directly to your home. Unfortunately, the need to special order these longer ties can be a problem if you need a new tie on short notice. In these situations, the two additional tips below can prove very helpful.

Tip #2: Use a Nontraditional Knot

The most traditional type of tie knot is a Windsor knot. The problem is that while this traditional knot offers a very classic look, it also uses a lot of the length of your tie. If you are already struggling to find a tie that fits your body proportions, losing a significant portion of the tie's length can be a serious problem. Thankfully there are several other types of knots that do not require as much length to tie. For instance, you can choose a half-Windsor or a four-in-hand knot. Both of these options will take up less fabric and will still offer you a very clean-cut look.

Tip #3: Make Use of a Vest

Even with the use of the two tips above, not every tie is going to provide you with the length you need. The good news is, there really is no reason for anyone else to know that your tie is too short. By choosing a three-piece suit that includes a vest, you will be able to hide all but the first few inches of your tie. This will allow you to wear any style of tie you wish without worrying about it falling short of your belt buckle. The fact that a suit vest will help to promote a very professional or formal look makes this idea even better.
